Canterbury Bulldogs vs Parramatta Eels Preview

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs picked up a win! Trent Barrett’s watery eyes suggest he may have started to believe his side might not win a game at all throughout the 2021 NRL season. They probably shouldn’t have ended up with the 18-12 win, but Barrett will take it. No shock for the Parramatta Eels, though. They cleaned up the Broncos with relative ease.

Barrett isn’t going to risk making any changes this week if he doesn’t need to. Matt Doorey and Chris Smith need to pass concussion protocols to play. Isaiah Papali’i retains his spot in the starting side despite Ryan Matterson’s return. Will Smith is out which brings Haze Dunster into the bench-utility role.

Not to be fooled by two competition points, the Bulldogs are still a bad football team. The Parramatta middle won’t have any problems getting up the field and the ball-playing through the centre-third will cause havoc on the edges. The Eels have had a tendency to take the easy road and look wide too early against lower opposition. Brad Arthur will have talked about that during the week. Provided we continue to see the best version of the Eels on Saturday, this one won’t be close.
