Having won his duel with Drew Brees in comprehensive fashion, Tom Brady now squares off against another fellow legendary veteran in likely MVP Aaron Rodgers. Brady threw for two touchdowns before plunging over for the sealer himself as Tampa Bay scored the last 17 points in their 30-20 defeat of New Orleans.

But the Buccaneers’ defence deserved the bulk of the kudos for the upset, turning four turnovers – including three interceptions – into three touchdowns. Linebacker Devin White was the undisputed star of a sizzling performance from the Bucs secondary.

Green Bay overwhelmed LA Rams 32-18 in the Divisional Round, with Rodgers (296 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs) calling the tune in another dominant Packers offensive display.

The Bucs snapped a three-match losing streak against the Packers with a 38-10 beatdown in Tampa in Week 6 – easily Green Bay’s worst performance this season. Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes, while Rodgers had zero TDs and two INTs (of just five he’s thrown this season) in a rare 2020 misstep.

The franchises have met once previous in the post-season: the Packers beat the Buccaneers 21-7 in the 1997 NFC Divisional Playoffs. Meanwhile, this is just the fourth time Rodgers and Brady have met, with Brady boasting a 2-1 advantage. Rodgers took the Packers all the way to the title in 2010 but has lost three NFC Championship Games since, while six-time Super Bowl winner Brady won his last three AFC Championship Games (2016-18) with the Patriots. The Bucs have not been on this stage since winner the 2002 Super Bowl.

This shapes as a classic, with the Packers perhaps looking a little short as $1.55 favourites. But Rodgers and co. are untouchable at present and won’t give up the opportunities Brees and the Saints afforded to Tampa Bay.
