A Grand Final rematch is in order on Saturday with both sides in relatively strong form.
The Dogs sit a game outside the eight on the heels of Richmond, and although last week’s big win over St Kilda was encouraging, things aren’t about to get any easier with the Cats and Dockers ahead following this week’s clash at Marvel.
The Dees have also steadied after a midseason lull with three wins from their last four games.
Melbourne outmuscled Port in Alice Springs to the tune of 14 points, largely thanks to a memorable six-goal bag from promising young forward, Kozzie Pickett.
The Dees famously won last year’s Grand Final over the Dogs with a mesmerizing second-half, while they also punished them in their most recent meeting kicking 14 goals in a comfortable Round 1 win.
As far as betting goes, this does look to be a very generous line.
It’s one thing to punish an out of sorts St Kilda team, but it’s hard to forget the Bulldogs’ goal-kicking woes against the Swans and Brisbane in previous weeks, alongside their recent 0-5 record as the line underdog.
Melbourne hasn’t been setting the world on fire, but the Dees have remain the toughest team to score against in the competition.
With top spot on the ladder still up for grabs, this might be the night Simon Goodwin’s side makes a statement.
