West Coast Eagles vs Fremantle Dockers Preview
The Western Derby is always one of the highlights of any given AFL fixture and the general football public being denied it in the prime-time Friday night slot is an absolute disgrace.
But enough of the editorializing, let’s talk about Fremantle veteran David Mundy.
The 35-year-old Docker veteran is like a fine wine getting better with age and is dominating in his 19th season of football.
Mundy’s stats make for terrific reading, as was uncovered by Fox Sports during the week:
“In Fremantle’s four wins so far this season, Mundy has averaged 29.5 disposals, 13.5 contested possessions, 10.3 score involvements, 6.3 inside 50s, 6.8 clearances, 452m gained, and 133 ranking points.”
By half-time of Freo’s win over North last Saturday, Mundy had kicked two goals and had 20 disposals to his name – finishing with three goals, and 30 touches of the sherrin at the end of the game. Not to mention the vital role he played in Freo’s win over the Crows on the road a couple of weeks back.
Nothing else that hasn’t been said needs to be put here about the Eagles performance last week, but rather than a Derby bet – this is a Mundy bet.
He’ll bring out his best in the Derby regardless of the outcome of the game, and that’s why this tidy little Same Game Mundy (see what I did there) is what I’m backing.
