The Bombers stole the headlines last week with a rousing win over St Kilda, one that left many fans wondering where that same effort had been all season.

After suffering another disheartening loss to Carlton a week earlier, Ben Rutten’s side suddenly found life in front of goal, while Essendon’s pressure also resembled that of the finals team we saw only six months earlier.

It’s likely too little too late for the Dons, but there’s nothing stopping them from picking up a second straight win this week in Perth.

West Coast’s season has been equally as miserable, although there was a bit to like about their performance against the Cats last week.

The Eagles hung tough for most of the game and even tied things up at half-time.

One goal in the final term eventually sealed their fate, but it was still an encouraging performance from a side that has struggled to score for most of the year.

West Coast has won three of its last five games against Essendon, but that same problem – scoring – is likely what sees them undone again this week.

The Bombers have averaged nearly six more scoring shots per-game compared to the Eagles, while they’ve also been much more efficient marking the ball inside 50.

It’s hard to read too much into either team’s performance last week, but with the Bombers finding some confidence, this road trip might be just what their season needs.
