St Kilda Saints vs Essendon Bombers Preview
Essendon fans have very little to feel good about right now, but they may find some solace in the fact their club managed to throttle St Kilda by 75 points when they met last year.
Unfortunately, things have taken a big turn south since then. The Bombers have lost 10 of their last 12 games, succumbing to Carlton last week by 26 points following a slightly encouraging effort against Port the week prior.
As for the Saints, a game against a struggling club couldn’t have come at a better time.
St Kilda hung tight with Brisbane early on last week before ultimately falling 21 points short.
Getting the ball inside 50 in the second half was a huge problem for the Saints, an area coach Brett Ratten will be hoping to rectify against one of the worst defensive lines in the competition.
On the medical front, Andrew McGrath is likely to slot back in for the Bombers, but a calf injury to superstar Darcy Parish is a massive blow for a club that has struggled through injuries all year.
Overall, this is a game the Saints should be winning by plenty if they are serious flag contenders this year. St Kilda has played to a strong 6-2 record at the line on the back of a loss this season, and with a game against the Swans up next, it’s one they just have to have.
