Richmond Tigers vs Hawthorn Hawks Preview
Four wins from their last five games has the Tigers right back on track to make finals.
There’s still some ground to make up, but a favourable run home starts this week against Hawthorn – a side Richmond has had no problem beating in recent years.
The Tigers last lost to the Hawks way back in 2020, and fans should hold fond memories of two blowout victories last year that saw them total well over 100 points on each occasion.
That said, Hawthorn has certainly improved in the second year of Sam Mitchell’s coaching regime, the Hawks prevailing in comfortable fashion last week against a hapless North Melbourne outfit.
The Hawks’ midfield looks set for a very bright future, and although they are still firmly in rebuild mode, it’s clear the players are buying into Sam Mitchell’s aggressive strategy and game plan.
Hawthorn’s hard-nosed style of footy has left them vulnerable against teams that can score, which could be the case this weekend against an in-form Richmond side that continues to see enormous production from Shai Bolton and Dustin Martin.
On the other side, the Tigers have been vulnerable down back though, which could see this turn into a shootout if Hawthorn’s forward line is up for the challenge.
Richmond currently ranks third in inside 50s allowed to opponents, not to mention the fact the Hawks have been a much more efficient team when it comes to disposals.
