Hawthorn Hawks vs Richmond Tigers Preview

The Tigers have opened as -30.5 point favourites on Sunday with a chance to improve to 2-0 against the Hawks.

Richmond unfurled their flags in style with a win over Carlton in Round 1, and it’s safe to say the reigning champs will now have their eye on some revenge.

If you’ll recall, the Hawks actually pulled off a surprising 32-point win when these two sides met in Round 3 last year.

Considering the uncertainty surrounding the season at that point, you can probably take that result with a grain of salt, but it should still motive the Tigers heading into this clash.

From Hawthorn’s perspective, Clarko has to be happy with the way his side responded to a seven-goal deficit last week against the Bombers.

A win for the Hawks was vital with two tough games against Richmond and Geelong coming up, and it was certainly encouraging for fans to see new talents like Tyler Brockman and Will Day leave their mark.

Of course, a game against this historic Richmond side is a different story.

You can never discount Clarko coming up with a wild strategy during the week, but based on what we saw from Hawthorn in the first half against the Dons, there’s a very strong chance this one gets ugly in a hurry.

With Richmond seemingly having another gear to go, this shapes as a very difficult test for some of Hawthorn’s young and inexperienced players.
