The Sam Mitchell era begins at Hawthorn as they host North Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

Most expect these sides to be down the bottom of the ladder in season 2022, so we could be in for a pretty even matchup.

There will be a lot of excitement for North fans with the anticipated debut of number 1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis, so he might be a sneaky one to join the first kick, first goal club if you feel like an omen bet.

From a proper punting perspective, despite winning the wooden spoon, the Kangaroos were a fairly reliable bet at the line last season and covered it in 10 of their last 12.

Hawthorn, on the other hand, seem to prefer being underdogs, having lost six of their last eight when backed as favourites – as they are for Sunday’s clash at $1.68

It’s also worth noting that when these two sides met last season, North Melbourne beat the Hawks by eight points down in Launceston, coming back from 32 points down and snapping a long losing streak to chalk their first win for the season 2021.

I don’t rule out North Melbourne starting the season with the four premiership points and the $2.20 is good value.
