The Giants and the Dogs have played out some important matches during their brief history, most notably a thrilling Prelim Final back in 2016 and an Elimination Final a couple of years ago that saw GWS through to the Grand Final.

Fittingly, both clubs find themselves with similar goals in mind this week.

A spot in the eight looks unlikely for GWS sitting 13th, but the Dogs are still in the hunt sitting just four points adrift from ninth-placed Richmond at time of publish.

That said, it’s been a difficult week for those in red and blue after the Bailey Smith drug scandal leaked last weekend, but there is some positive news to celebrate with key forward Josh Bruce very close to returning.

The Giants are also nearly back to full strength with Phil Davis set to return this week, but it’s still no surprise to find almost even money on offer in the market.

On one hand, the Dogs have been extremely tough to trust this season as they continue to struggle in front of goal, but on the other, it does feel like the bookies might be overreacting to GWS’ big win over North Melbourne last week.

In comparison, these two sides both have different strengths and weaknesses, but the Dogs do look to have the edge when it comes to average inside 50s per-game, as well as scoring shots.

It’s too early to call this a “must-win” game, but with a tough stretch coming up against Hawthorn, Brisbane, Sydney, and St Kilda, this is one the Dogs know they have to have.
