The Giants head back to Canberra on Sunday with a renewed sense of hope and optimism sitting just outside the eight.

It’s been a remarkable turnaround under first-year coach Adam Kingsley, the Giants stringing together five wins on the trot – two coming in upset fashion against the Dees, and most recently, the Adelaide Crows.

Up next, the Gold Coast Suns, a side that shares equal finals aspirations after responding with a 26-point win over St Kilda last week in their first game without long-time coach, Stuart Dew.

On their day, the Suns can be a handful for even the best sides, and if they can dominate the clearances like they did last week – something they’ve done well all year – they should push the Giants all the way.

Like other games this week, this is another tough one to pick, and at first glance, the Giants might be a little short in the market.

The Suns have coughed up some horrible performances away from this year, but they do match up well against a Giants team that has struggled around the clearances all year.

Trends-wise, it’s worth noting the favourites has won 14 of the last 15 games between the pair, while GWS’s last three games have been decided by 15 points or less.

Whether the Suns were good last week, or the Saints were just bad is a fair question, but with both sides playing for a chance to leapfrog their way up the ladder, there mightn’t be a great deal of separation on the scoreboard.
