It has been a less than ideal Premiership defence for Chris Scott and his Cats in season 2023 so far.

Geelong are missing key personal, especially in defence but it is the effort and lack of intensity that is most concerning in my opinion.

It took three quarters before the Cats kicked into gear against Carlton and it was almost enough, eventually going down by just eight points.

Jack Bowes, Olliver Henry and Tanner Bruhn will need time to evolve as will Tom Hawkins who missed a large chunk of pre season through injury.

The Gold Coast also remain winless but it was improved effort against the Bombers in Melbourne in round two.

It took a late surge by the Bombers to snatch the victory and the Suns will be glad this game is taking place on the Gold Coast.

It’s not panic stations for the Cats just yet but this is an important game for a team desperate to get on the board.
