A battle between two sides at the bottom of the table features two sides in very different form as the Blues host the Suns at Marvel Stadium. Carlton has enjoyed a resurgence since changing coach after their round 11 loss to the Bombers. The Blues have gone 3-2 in that time, with both of those losses by less than a goal. The more surprising win of the trio came last round at the SCG, when they upset the Swans as more than four goal outsiders. The Blues led for much of the match and effectively ended Sydney’s finals hopes.

By contrast, the Suns have faded badly as the season has gone on. They have lost 12 games in a row, with their last win a two point triumph against Carlton in round 4. The Suns started the season 3-1. In that round 4 match, Carlton led by 11 points at three-quarter time but were mowed down, with a late Jack Bowes goal the difference maker. Gold Coast has been thumped by 90+ points in their past two matches.

The Wolf has been riding the Blues a lot lately and they keep producing the goods. They are a sublime 12-4 against the handicap this season despite winning just four matches. The Suns are 7-9, but 2-0 in games at Marvel Stadium in 2019. Carlton are sizeable favourites, but on current form they deserve to be. None of the Blues’ wins have been by more than three goals, but the Suns are a rabble at the moment and shouldn’t pose too many issues for Carlton, although they have won their last two games against the Bluebaggers in Melbourne.
