Well that wasn’t in the script! Brazil’s complete collapse losing to Germany 7-1 was paying a massive $501 according to online bookmaker sportsbet.

Only 2 punters in the whole country envisioned that result, no doubt having a Frankfurter or two for lunch.

Brazil went into the game slight favourites at $2.75 to win the game but quickly spiralled out to $6.00, $17, $61, $161 and then $421 – that was before the second half had even begun!

Two optimistic punts both had $50 on the Brazilians at $421 – probably with the hope of Christ the Redeemer coming on in the second half.

The Germans meanwhile started the game at $2.80 before shortening to $1.62, $1.13, $1.03, $1.02 and then a ridiculous $1.001 before the start of the final 45 minutes!

One punter with Sportsbet placed a bet of just under $50,000 on the Germans at odds of $1.02 during the half time interval.

All eyes now turn to the second South American v Europe semi-final clash between Argentina ($2.40) and the Netherlands ($3.25) – the punters have so far favoured the Dutch for another World Cup shock.

“Well done to those punters who predicted the 7-1. The Germans were unbelievable and whoever they face in the Final will probably need a few Schnapps before kick-off,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
