She’s the aptly named yacht that just seems to get better with age, and the punters agree.

Over 90% of all money wagered with bookmaker William Hill for the 2015 edition of Sydney to Hobart yacht race, has been placed on the Robert Oatley owned Wild Oats XI.

It would be the ‘old girl’s’ ninth victory in the annual ocean race.

However, Wild Oats and her crew face stiff opposition from the other 100-foot supermaxis in the fleet. The US owned Comanche is second in-line at $2.15, having set a blistering pace in the trans-Atlantic race earlier this year, while Anthony Bell’s Perpetual Loyal ($12) shouldn’t be discounted either.

“Wild Oats is all class, year after year and the punters can’t get enough of her,” William Hill’s Tim Ashworth said.

“It’s not going to be smooth sailing though, with Comanche, Ragamuffin 100 and Perpetual Loyal all genuine shots in what is going to be one of the more difficult Sydney to Hobarts in recent memory.”
