Preview:

The Hurricanes got away with an eight-run victory in Perth when the teams met a week ago.

D’Arcy Short’s spellbinding 103 not out off 70 balls drove Hobart to 2/180. Mitch Marsh (48 off 36) top-scored in a spirited chase, but Scott Boland (2/29) played a key role in restricting the Scorchers.

The 4-4 Scorchers have enjoyed a very fruitful time since, however. They immediately bounced back with a six-wicket win over the Renegades in Geelong, with Jhye Richardson (3/22) and Liam Livingstone (59 off 39) starring.

A 34-run home defeat of the Heat on Saturday night followed. Captain Marsh clubbed a brilliant 93* off 41 to lead the Scorchers to an imposing 3/213. Richardson (2/34) and Joel Paris (2/29) did the job with the ball.

Conversely, the 3-5 Hurricanes have struggled in recent days with Short on ODI duty. Returning Test gun Matthew Wade’s 61 off 46 (in a total of just 9/126) and Boland’s 3/16 was not enough in a six-wicket loss to the Heat.

A last-over, four-wicket loss to the Thunder on Saturday left the ’Canes in second-last.

After losing six straight against the Scorchers, the Hurricanes have now won the last four between the sides. Hobart prevailed by six wickets and four wickets respectively last season.

Short’s absence has been exacerbated by injuries to James Faulkner and Riley Meredith for the Hurricanes.

The Scorchers are without all-rounders Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner. But with Marsh firing, they are better equipped to deal with the disruption. Lean towards the visitors to keep their roll going.

Philippe and James Vince are the go-to batsmen in the Sixers line-up.
