Preview:

The Brisbane Heat can jump back into the top five with their first win in three games. The Sydney Sixers are aiming to consolidate second spot on the ladder.

This match also sees Australian Test and ODI superstars Steve Smith (Sixers) and Marnus Labuschagne (Heat) line up for their first Big Bash match of the season.

The 5-6 Heat have lost their last two to the Strikers (10 wickets) and Renegades (44 runs). They were bowled out for just 100 in Adelaide, with Matt Renshaw (43 off 31) top-scoring.

They weren’t much better against the last-placed ’Gades, skittled for 120. Sam Heazlett (56 off 37) and Chris Lynn (41 off 15) got the Heat off to a flyer racking up 84 for the first wicket inside six overs – before one of the most astonishing collapses in BBL history unfolded.

The 7-4-1 Sixers banked their first win in two weeks on Monday. A brilliant knock from Moises Henriques (72 off 31) steered them to 4/143 in 14 overs against the ladder-leading Stars, who fell 21 runs short in the rain-affected blockbuster.

The Heat thrashed the Sixers by 48 runs in the teams’ early-season clash in Sydney. A scintillating 94 off 35 balls from Lynn and 60 off 39 from Renshaw powered Brisbane to 4/209. James Vince (39 off 27) top-scored in a spluttering Sixers reply.

It was just the Heat’s second win in 11 encounters with the Sixers.

Brisbane start as $1.70 favourites at home, but they are only 2-2 at The Gabba this season. Sydney are 4-2 outside their home city in BBL09. The Sixers are great value here. Consider a nibble at Smith as top batsman after his brilliant century in Bengaluru on Sunday.
