Teenage sprint sensation Jack Hale is the best backed runner to win Monday’s Stawell Gift thanks to an extra metre handicap compared to last year.

The 17 year old Tasmanian is off 3.25m and is only on the fifth line of betting with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au at $8.00, but there have been more bets on Hale than on race favourite Stuart Rooke, who’s priced at $3.75 off an 8.5 metre handicap.

Ryan Bedford ($5.50), Tjimarri Sanderson-Milera ($6.00) and Jack Newman ($7.00) are the other athletes in contention according to the market.

“Jack Hale is coming off a personal best in the 100m and the handicapper has been slightly more lenient this time round after he was knocked out in last year’s semi-finals,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
