They’re on top of the NRL ladder but Penrith still aren’t considered a genuine threat to take out this year’s premiership, finding themselves on just the fifth line of betting at $13.

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has listed the Panthers as only a $6.00 chance of finishing the regular season on top, or $3.30 to snare a top 2 finish.

Penrith to end up 3rd of 4th is the favoured option at $2.90, with 5th/6th ($3.75) and 7th/8th priced at $6.00.

The Mountain Men do however seem assured of a finals spot, priced at $1.05 to be playing in September, and $9.00 to miss out on the 8.

Needing to win to stay in top spot, the Panthers are $1.60 favourites for their Monday night clash with Brisbane ($2.40).

“The Panthers have made the most of the Origin period where they had no players missing…..punters believe they’ve overachieved and won’t be able to maintain their lofty position on the ladder,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.
