This will be a gruelling two-mile affair on the wet ground, with The Offer ($3.1) showing great staying power in winning the Chairman’s Handicap over 2600m at this track last weekend. If that run hasn’t taken too much out of him he looks the one to beat. The Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding is an Irish-bred stayer and has taken time to find his feet in Sydney but now looks as though he is at his peak and could also be a Melbourne spring contender.

Who Shot Thebarman ($6) is a tough-as-nails Kiwi, which won the Auckland Cup over the distance at his most recent start on March 5. The Yamanin Vital gelding has won on a heavy track and is ultra-consistent with six wins and two seconds from nine starts. He has the services of Kiwi-born, Sydney-based whiz-kid James McDonald.

The Offer

Voleuse De Coeurs ($10) is a smart mare formerly trained in Ireland by Dermot Weld but has to contend with 58kg here, while Epingle ($15) is racing in the best form of her career and could surprise.

Chris Waller’s Opinion ($26) bobs up at good odds now and then, and Tremec ($15) is a bold-going type, which looks the likely pacemaker and could give a sight for Christian Reith.

We have a huge offer on The Offer ($3.1)! The classy stayer may be flying, but we’re still taking him on. You can get $4 on the Sydney Cup favourite in our special promotional market.
